A Hole Where Hole Should Be

It was reported on the NME website last week that Hole have pulled out of the Australian touring music festival Soundwave. The reason being that Courtney Love found out that they were below Limp Bizkit on the line up. Imagine the outrage!! She took to twitter and blasted the promoter with the following: “What bloody flight of crazed fancy made you think we’d open for Limp Bizkit dude? No offence, that’s nuts.”

Is it nuts? Does anyone consider Hole to be bigger than Limp Bizkit? Would this really be the first time Courtney Love found herself under Fred Durst??

Well, I don’t know about that last one. Back in the day Hole were quite a big deal for a couple of years and maybe if they were to reform with the original line up then there is a possibility that some people could be interested. But as they are, it seems they should be grateful for the booking more than worrying what other bands are getting bigger billing. Courtney Love has taken offence at the suggestion that people would rather see Limp Bizkit, and i’m no fan of the rap metal funsters, but I can see the promoters point. Limp Bizkit are a festival band. If you’re standing in a massive field with thousands of people, having had maybe a couple of cans of shandy bass too many, you lose some sense of musical dignity and sometimes want a band to just come out, serve up some hits and generally have a good time. Limp Bizkit do this at festivals all round the world, they know it’s their job to. They never headline, just play mid to late afternoon when the crowd needs a bit of a lift to get them ready for the headlining bands to come and play.

Would anyone have really been put off if they had seen the festival stage times and noticed that Hole were on earlier? No, of course not. There are plenty of other great bands playing at that festival, and I can’t see anyone missing a band they like just because of where they are on the bill. The best bands are always on early in the day anyway, headliners have to be boring, massive and bland so they appeal to the most amount of people. No one is going to miss The Dillinger Escape Plan because they are playing earlier in the day than Slipknot, it’s ridiculous.

Courtney Love is either embarrassed or simply just can’t be bothered. Either way it’s no great loss. It’s her backing band that are the only ones that are really going to miss out, they were probably looking forward to spending part of their winter in Australia, sounds nice. Now they have to feign some outrage at the news just so they don’t get chucked out of the band.
Courtney Love fans don’t despair. She is currently putting the finishing touches to her memoirs that are to be published before the end of the year. So, at last we will be able to find out that Billy Corgan actually wrote the whole of ‘Celebrity Skin’ or whether or not Steve Coogan yells “Aha!” when he climaxes. The world waits with baited breath.

cheers.

They used to be good though

Pretty on the inside is an altime classic. ALL TIME……. as for the original line up…. one of em is dead. It all went wrong when she had a nose job.

That’s what I’m saying, if she got the original line up back together there would be interest both from the world of music and the world of science

God she is just mental though; in good and bad ways.
